Say hi to violist William Newbery ! 👋
🎻
We have a few artists coming up from Tasmania to join us in Albury and we look forward to having him onboard at this years festival!
Will tells us about his beautiful viola and its history below.

🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻

“The instrument I'll be playing actually belongs to the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. It's a new viola made by English luthier Robert Brewer Young in 2020. Young is an internationally prominent luthier and it's particularly interesting the way he combines traditional instrument making techniques (having cared for instruments from the Italian masters at Carnegie Hall) with contemporary scientific methods. He works with museums and is the director of the scientific research and conservation programme at J & A Beare in London, the world's most famous dealership in antique string instruments.

The TSO's Young Viola is a superb instrument. It's 'antiqued' which means it was made to look old even when brand new. It's dark, warm and rich in sound and very responsive to subtle bow movements. The TSO viola section is lucky to have it as one of the instruments we share.”
And we are lucky to hear it at this years Albury Chamber Music Festival 2025!

🎻Will plays in Lieder eines Fahrenden Gesellen, The Mahler quartet, and in the opening concert Karl Jenkins : The Armed Man.

🎶 Eliza Shephard and the Art of the Unexpected... Dearest gentle listener, just when one thought the flute had revealed all her charms — along comes Eliza Shephard to turn the notion on its head!

From her fearless explorations with the glissando headjoint to her championing of female composers through March of the Women, Eliza’s performances shimmer with wit, daring, and delight.

Expect cascades of colour, flights of fancy, and a touch of mischief as this remarkable musician reminds us that even the most elegant instrument can have a rebellious streak. 🎩

* Eliza is playing two Australian compositions by Anne Cawrse and Alex Manton. She is also playing in Andrew Perkins - The radish and The Shoe, Karl Jenkins - The Armed Man.

🎩 “Musical Mischief in the House of Ferguson” 🎶 The Fergusons Have Arrived! What’s better than one Ferguson? Three, of course! 🎻🎹🎼 This year’s ACMF line-up welcomes some of the Adelaide Ferguson family, bringing with them a trebling of talent. Between them they sing, play, compose, and generally make the rest of us wonder if there’s something special in the Ferguson breakfast cereal.

From Ciara Louise Ferguson’s inventive new works to the artistry of Susan and Mark Ferguson on stage, it’s a full-family takeover — and we couldn’t be happier. Prepare for harmony, heart and a healthy dose of family brilliance. 💫

🎶 Guess who’s back at ACMF? That’s right — Michael Fortescue!
Renowned for his expressive tone and thoughtful musicianship, Michael brings a rare blend of skill and soul to the stage. Whether it’s a sweeping romantic phrase or the quietest whisper from the strings, he always finds the emotion in the music.

Come along and experience the magic for yourself — this is chamber music at its most human and heartfelt. 💫
