Pianist, composer and arranger Mark Ferguson moves effortlessly between jazz, orchestral music, theatre and cabaret — and his extraordinary career has taken him into some fascinating musical territory.
Head of Jazz at the University of Adelaide, Mark was awarded the 2022 APRA AMCOS Luminary Award for South Australia in recognition of his contributions to music education, jazz performance and composition.
His collaborations range from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Australian String Quartet to Rufus Wainwright, Meow Meow and Jazzmeia Horn. He has been musical director for numerous theatre and cabaret productions, including Tina Arena’s Songs My Mother Taught Me and Camille O’Sullivan’s Helpmann Award-winning Changeling.
In 2025, Mark composed the UNESCO Cities of Music International Jazz Day relay song, performed and recorded by more than 20 jazz groups around the world.

Paris comes to Albury with Louise Blackwell, chanteuse and leading lady of the French Set.
Louise lived in France for ten years, studying cinema in Lyon and Paris before immersing herself in the Paris jazz scene, where she studied with jazz singers Sara Lazarus and Michèle Hendricks and recorded three albums with pianist Vincent Bourgeyx and trio.
Back in Australia, she brought that experience to Louise Blackwell and the French Set, celebrating the great French songbook with performances that have developed a strong following in Adelaide and interstate. Their award-winning Fringe seasons have included A Night in Paris I & II and From Paris with Love, while Louise’s Love on the Left Bank: Juliette Gréco, the muse of Saint Germain des Prés premiered to critical acclaim at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
This year she returns to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival with A FRENCH ROMANCE — before bringing a little of that unmistakable Parisian atmosphere to Ooh là là! in Albury.
Louise appears at our Albury Club Gala.

Violins, Baroque cello, harpsichord, oboe and voices — Limestone Consort brings the colour and character of Baroque music to Ooh là là!
Formed in Canberra in 2012 from a shared desire to perform Baroque repertoire, Limestone Consort brings together professional and semi-professional musicians with extensive experience in historically informed performance.
Festival audiences will already have met soprano Greta Claringbould. She is joined in the Consort by violinists Lauren Davis and Michelle Higgs, cellist Clara Teniswood, harpsichordist Ariana Odermatt, oboist Aaron Reichelt and alto Maartje Sevenster.
Between them are performances with ensembles including the Canberra Bach Ensemble, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Baroque and Bach Akademie Australia, as well as appearances at the Leipzig Bachfest and extensive experience performing some of the great works of the Baroque.
For a Festival with France at its heart, the distinctive sound world of the Baroque will be right at home.

From the concert hall to the jazz club, Michael Evans-Barker has spent more than 30 years exploring just how much can be done with percussion.
A member of the Art of Sound Orchestra and a regular performer on Melbourne’s jazz scene, Michael’s musical life crosses genres with ease. His recording with the Nadav Rayman Trio was nominated for the 2021 Australian Music Prize, while his work as a composer and collaborator has included music for the Australian Shakespeare Theatre Company and recording and touring with Steve Kilbey and All India Radio.
At Ooh là là!, Michael brings that breadth of experience to the Festival ensemble, with percussion adding its own distinctive colour, energy and drama to this year’s programme.

One of the greatest pleasures of a chamber music festival is discovery.
Alongside the French masterpieces at the heart of Ooh là là!, the Festival also celebrates the richness of Australian composition, bringing together music that is lyrical, thought-provoking, adventurous and deeply expressive.
This year’s Festival features works by Peter Sculthorpe AO OBE FAHA, John Ross OAM, Mark Ferguson, Ross Fiddes and Michael Lampard—composers whose music reflects the remarkable breadth of Australia’s musical voice.
Whether you’re hearing these works for the first time or returning to familiar favourites, they promise moments of surprise, beauty and inspiration throughout the Festival weekend.
You may even discover a new favourite.
