Only very few violinists can convincingly perform Johannes Brahms’ Violin Sonata No.2, Op. 100. We are therefore very excited that the “God of the Violin” Yi Wang (Orchestra Victoria Acting Concert Master) has agreed to astonish us with his musicality and technical brilliance in this masterwork of the violin repertoire. Composer-Pianist William Schmidt will also reimagine his favourite vocal repertoire from a pianist’s perspective.

We are therefore very excited that the “God of the Violin” Yi Wang (Orchestra Victoria Acting Concert Master) has agreed to astonish us with his musicality and technical brilliance in this “colossal aria for violin and piano”. Composer-Pianist William Schmidt will also reimagine his favourite vocal repertoire from a pianist’s perspective.

This performance celebrates legendary baritone John Bolton-Wood’s six decades of dedication to opera and music. John will present the songs closest to his heart and tell stories about his encounters with famous conductors and colleagues. This concert will also involve a Q&A! Get those questions ready!

Esteemed organist David Drury will “pull out all the stops” to en(chant) you on St. Matthews’s unique Letourneau pipe organ. He will then be joined by festival artists bass Jack Stephens (the lowest voice in the room) and Scott Marshall (the Border’s King of oboe) to perform selections from Bach’s Ich habe genug!

NOSTRA TERRA – Session 1, Performance 5, Honour the Earth

Our festival artists will team up with Albury’s musical community to perform Sarah Hopkins’ Honour the Earth. The work celebrates Mother Earth and reminds us that we must honour her. It is influenced by Native American, African, Celtic, Aboriginal and Mongolian music and will feature overtone singing expert Dean Frenkel and our harmonic whirlies!

CANTABILE – Session 1, Performance 6, Songs Without Words

Stunning pianist Andrea Lam is EVERYWHERE but luckily, we have snagged her for our Festival.
In some ways, Franz Schubert’s music is all about song and the voice, and so is his breathtaking second last piano sonata. It is a large-scale work that encapsulates beauty, warmth, grandeur, intimacy, nostalgia, joy, melancholy and whimsy. This will be interspersed with works by Matthew Hindson, J.S. Bach, and Chopin, all songs without words from different times and places.

Australia’s baroque elite Sally-Anne Russell and Andrew Goodwin will tell the story of Dido and Aeneas, a story of love, betrayal and loyalty. Come and experience this wonderful chamber opera in the exquisite setting of the Adamshurst Ballroom.

Piano Protégé Nikki Jian is 13 years old and the recipient of the 2021 Albury Chamber Music Festival Prize. Witness Nikki’s interpretation of Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27, No.2, a song of the sweet summer of two souls, Beethoven’s virtuosic Appassionata Sonata Op.57, No.23 and Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, arranged for piano.

Australia’s most beloved lyric tenor Andrew Goodwin, together with pianist Andrea Lam, will perform Schubert’s Winterreise as our final concert for the 2022 Albury Chamber Music Festival. This world class singer leaves people in tears with his beauty of tone and unique interpretation and truly exquisite musicianship. In the setting of the Adamshurst Ballaroom this Lieder recital will be one to remember.
